Capitol Reef National Park

Yet another one of Utah’s Mighty 5 that doesn’t disappoint! While visitation numbers for Capitol Reef National Park aren’t nearly as high as Zion National Park or Bryce Canyon National Park, it is still accessible and full of fantastic views and experiences.

While it is common to find unpaved routes in the Eastern parks of the Mighty 5 (Canyonlands National Park and Arches National Park), Capitol Reef National Park is the transition from the crowds and pavement only driving found in the Western Utah parks, and what lies within its borders is wonderful. Capitol Reef National Park’s unpaved routes aren’t technical like those found around Moab, and thus make it available to a wide variety of vehicles.

One of the very infrequently traveled routes through Capitol Reef National Park involves an unpaved access all the way up to Interstate 70, which can be a great choice to get even further away from the crowds, especially if you’re trying to make it to the Interstate and travel laterally across the state.
