Trans New Hampshire Expedition Route

Live Free or Die is the New Hampshire state motto, it’s even on their license plates. There is plenty of freedom in NH to choose whether you want a relaxed pavement pounding path through the state, or want to entertain the unpaved roads that make up the bulk of the Trans New Hampshire Expedition Route (TNHX).

Three days is what the guide document allots for this trip from the Canadian border to the Atlantic Ocean, although breaking it up into four would be perfectly fine, especially as traffic will increase towards the coast. For the unpaved sections, we’d recommend something a bit more robust than something fresh off the dealer lot.

The best way to do this trip? With a group of friends, of course! There are plenty of places to set up camp on or adjacent to the route, and having a buddy to spot you through some of the more technical terrain is always a plus! Want to do it solo?
